Extremely durable

Wool fibres have a natural crimp and elasticity that allow them to bend, stretch and spring back thousands of times without breaking. This resilience means wool maintains its shape and appearance far longer than most synthetic materials.

Hypoallergenic

Wool doesn’t trap dust in the air - instead, its structure captures allergens and particulates, keeping them out of circulation until vacuumed. It is also naturally resistant to mould and mildew thanks to its moisture-regulating properties.

Fire resistant

Wool is naturally difficult to ignite because of its high nitrogen and moisture content, and it self-extinguishes rather than melting or dripping. It also produces significantly less toxic smoke than synthetic fibres, making it one of the safest materials for home interiors, packaging and insulation.

Moisture management

Wool can absorb up to 35 percent of its own weight in moisture vapour without feeling damp, buffering humidity and helping prevent condensation. This makes indoor environments drier, healthier and more comfortable.

Natural, sustainable & biodegradable

Grown on pasture, water and sunlight, wool is a completely natural fibre that renews itself every year. It contains no petrochemicals, no plastics and no synthetic additives - just the integrity of a material shaped by the landscape.

Temperature regulating

Wool naturally insulates by trapping pockets of air within each fibre, keeping warmth in during winter and releasing heat when temperatures rise. This thermal balance helps maintain a comfortable environment year-round without reliance on artificial heating or cooling.

New Zealand Wool Performs

New Zealand wool is shaped by its environment — clean rainfall, rich pasture, coastal winds and open space — producing fibre known for its natural brightness and durability.

It performs exceptionally in upholstery, furniture fills, acoustic products and interior surfaces, springing back and holding its shape through everyday use.

This is wool designed to perform in the real world.

A Better Future, built from wool

For generations, strong wool was valued as a renewable, resilient natural fibre. Over time, plastics and petrochemical materials replaced it, leaving this remarkable resource underused.

Big Wool was created to change that. Using modern technology, we transform New Zealand strong wool into high-performance materials for furniture, bedding, acoustics and more.

By controlling the process from our own farms through to advanced needling production, we ensure traceability, quality and consistency — backed by more than 50 years of furniture manufacturing experience and partnerships with leading designers and global brands.
